Riedel Implements RefCam and Easy5G for the First Time at an International Soccer Match

Riedel’s RefCam® Live was used for the first time during an international soccer match. In combination with Riedel’s Easy5G™ Private 5G network, the camera solution was integrated into an existing broadcast setup with approximately 30 cameras to provide viewers with additional insights directly from the referee’s perspective.

During the friendly match between the German men’s national team and Ghana, the focus was on seamless integration into the existing TV production. The goal was to effectively complement the established camera angles at the Stuttgart stadium without altering the usual production workflow. The RefCam delivered authentic footage from close range — from player-referee interactions and controversial game situations to the teams’ warm-ups and lineups.

“In an international context, the RefCam offers far more than just a new camera angle. It realizes its full potential precisely in those moments when closeness, dynamism, and emotion become visible. At the same time, it helps referees capture critical game situations and thus make them easier to understand by recording relevant scenes directly from the referee’s perspective,” said Dalton Koch, Junior Project Manager, Riedel Communications.

Riedel’s Easy5G system, consisting of an Easy5G Core and two base stations, was used for wireless signal transmission. The signal was transmitted to TV production via SDI. Additionally, the international referee team used RefComms with Bolero S to ensure clear and reliable referee communication during the game.

“Following successful deployments in various leagues and cup competitions, this international soccer match marks an important milestone for RefCam and Easy5G,” said Jacqueline Voss, Executive Director of Strategy and Innovation at Riedel’s Managed Technology Division. “We are delighted with the successful implementation in close collaboration with the DFB. It illustrates how we at Riedel approach innovation: practical, production-ready, and with clear added value for viewers, production partners, and sports organizations.”

Riedel’s RefCam Live and the company’s Easy5G Private 5G network will be on display at IBC2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14 (Stand 10.A24) — along with a host of other key solutions targeted at live production in the worlds of media, sports and entertainment.
