A Day at the Races with Riedel RockNet
For providing an audio distribution for the latest Red Bull Soapbox Race in Los Angeles the organizer chose a RockNet digital audio network from Riedel Communications. The system was installed and provided by the Los Angeles based production company Delicate Productions.
The Red Bull Soapbox Race was an exciting soapbox racing event. With a race circuit spanning a distance of over three blocks in downtown Los Angeles, the organizers installed a large RockNet audio system to integrate the various positions such as the start, the finish line, the food court or the stage area into one single integrated network. A total of nine RockNet RN.302.LO line out devices and one RN.301.MI line/microphone in unit were used. The digital Yamaha mixing consoles of the event were also integrated into the RockNet audio network via RockNet RN.141.MY console interface cards. This provided the remote control for all input and output gains of the RockNet audio network. RockNet's "Independent Gain" feature allowed the individual gains to be controlled from all consoles independent from the master console.
"RockNet was responsible for a flawlessly working installation. Plus, it was basically all plug and play, which at an event of that size and with the lack of time, we had for the installation, was exactly, what was needed", said Scott Scherban, Audio System Engineer at the Red Bull Soapbox Race. For bridging the large distances between the several RockNet devices Delicate Productions installed RockNet fiber connectors, which allow distances of up to 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) via fiber.
