Riedel Communications delivered several comprehensive communications systems for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for several broadcast providers, at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Riedel, one of the leading providing of communications technology and signal distribution infrastructure for large scale events such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup, delivered sophisticated systems that combined wired and wireless intercom as well as wireless video technology.

A total of 3.8 kilometers of fiber were used at the events to connect the various Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom mainframes and the Riedel Acrobat digital wireless intercom systems. At the heart of the installation was a Riedel Artist network consisting of two Artist 128 and seven Artist 64 mainframes. The frames offered connections for a total of 73 Artist 1000 series control panels. A Performer digital partyline installation with 65 beltpacks providing high quality digital audio was used at the opening and closing ceremonies.

An Acrobat wireless intercom system enhanced the communications installation via a DECT based wireless intercom infrastructure. 18 beltpacks were used together with five Acrobat antennas to cover the venue.

To expand the wireless communications infrastructure a total 350 conventional radios and 200 digital radios were furnished. The radios made use of 16 semi-duplex channels, 32 simplex channels and twelve TETRA channels. The installation provided radio coverage for the entire venue. Two FM transmitters fed the signals to Riedel 400 FMR-1000 radio receivers. Various accessories and Riedel AIR, PRO and MAX series headsets completed the installation.

In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, Riedel also provided intercom and signal distribution infrastructures for several broadcasters. The Indian broadcast provider Zoom deployed a combination of Artist and Performer intercom at the Commonwealth Games. Zoom used an extensive Artist intercom infrastructure with six Artist 64 and eight Artist 32 mainframes. 30 Artist 1000 and 220 Artist 2000 series control panels were used by Zoom. The Artist installation was expanded by a comprehensive Performer setup with more than 40 C44 system interfaces and 100 Performer beltpacks.

To provide an extensive router system for the commentary audio at the IBC, the Australian Broadcast provider Global Television Australia used a dual Artist intercom matrix with a total of 21 Artist 64 mainframes. The frames were divided into two fiber rings, one with 13 nodes and the other with 8 nodes. With the Riedel Master Control Room software Global Television Australia was able to use the large system as a router as well as an intercom system. The system connected different departments such as production, post production, Rights Holding Broadcasters and the CSC (Commentary Switching Center) as well as the CDT (Contribution, Distribution and Transmission vision switching area).

The British broadcast provider SIS LIVE also installed a communications infrastructure at the Commonwealth Games using Artist digital matrix intercom and Performer digital partyline systems. The heart of their installation was a combination of one Artist 128 and one Artist 64 mainframe. These frames provided the backbone for 77 Artist 1000 and 2000 series control panels. 16 Performer beltpacks were used for the digital partyline installation. Furthermore, Riedel delivered a wireless video solution consisting of five Grass Valley systems that included cameras, optics transmitters, viewfinder and receivers to SIS LIVE, which also used 10 link systems with transceivers for the wireless video transport.
