VW Autostadt Water Show 2010 with Riedel MediorNet

To put on the water show "Caribbean Summer" at the Autostadt Wolfsburg, the event organizers used an extensive MediorNet and RockNet installation for the distribution of video, audio and control signals. One of the chief requirements for the optical fiber-based system by Riedel Communications was that the fiber network needed to be installed underwater.

The main objective of the "Caribbean Summer" system was the integration of the event's directors, various video walls, digital projectors, DMX-control data for water pumps and lighting control data into one single system. The organizers also needed to access the status information of each projector over the same infrastructure. To supply the individual playout positions with audio signals, the event organizers utilized Riedel's digital audio network solution RockNet.

A total of four MediorNet mainframes were used in the Autostadt installation. These frames were responsible for the distribution and routing of video signals to the three video walls that were placed at various locations in the venue. In addition, MediorNet also distributed control signals for the water pump and lighting, thus ensuring a significantly easier than normal installation.

"MediorNet enabled us to reduce the installation costs significantly. What we used to manage with multiple parallel networks, we could easily accomplish this time on a single system," said Christian Kiel from VW Autostadt.
Overall, approximately 2 miles of fiber was deployed for the installation of "Caribbean Summer".
