Riedel’s Connect Duo combines ISDN Interface and Analogue Telephone Hybrid

Amsterdam, Netherlands (9 September 2005) – Riedel’s CONNECT duo provides the key for an intelligent and seamless intercom interface to the outside world via ISDN and PSTN public telephone networks. The device, being introduced at IBC 2005 on Stand 10.131, combines an ISDN S0 interface allowing for two simultaneous connections using two ISDN B-channels, and an analogue PSTN telephone hybrid in a compact 1/2RU device making it an ideal solution for mobile units as well as other applications.

Fully compatible with all intercom systems, CONNECT duo seamlessly integrates with Riedel’s Artist matrix and is capable of remotely controlling panels via ISDN. It can be configured directly from Riedel’s Director software. The system can also be controlled from the integrated keypad and large full graphic display, or directly from the Artist control panels.

When operating in ISDN mode, two audio codecs with G.711 and G.722 algorithms are available. The G.722 audio codec provides high quality audio with 7 kHz audio bandwidth and a coding delay of less than 10 ms. CONNECT duo can transmit and receive two separate audio channels over one single S0 interface allowing connections to two separate destinations to be established. Each audio codec uses one ISDN B-channel (64 kbit/s). It is possible to use different codecs (G.711 or G.722) for each of the two B-channels.

For incoming calls the device automatically detects the codec capabilities of the remote site and switches to the correct mode (3.4 or 7 kHz) automatically. In the analogue PSTN operating mode one audio codec with a bandwidth of 3.4 kHz is available. For direct connection to analogue or digital matrix ports CONNECT duo provides both transformer balanced analogue and digital AES3/EBU audio I/Os.

When used with Artist intercom systems, the device can remotely control panels via ISDN and can dial-up the home studios from the outside location enabling full access to all intercom destinations and resources at minimum line costs. By simply installing one CONNECT duo at the outside location connected to a panel, and another unit in the studio connected via ISDN or POTS, the outside location behaves like it is directly connected to the matrix thus providing full access to all intercom ports. (?ok? Check with grafic?)

An integrated telephone book not only stores telephone numbers, but system settings for each number as well. Connections can be established directly at the device.

Each CONNECT duo is delivered with a rackmount set for 19” racks as standard. An additional rackmount set for mounting two units in 19”/1RU is available.
