Wireless Video Links for the Vienna Philharmonics

The Sommernachtskonzert in Vienna is a large-scale open air classical music event with more than 100,000 spectators. It is one of the largest annual events of the Vienna Philharmonic and is broadcast live in more than 100 countries on behalf of the Austrian public broadcast network ORF.

Riedel implemented the event’s 800 meter HD skycam with the Conductor telemetry solution.

"Given the local radio conditions we opted for a 40 Mbit/s video link to guarantee the best possible video quality," said Martin Holovlasky, rental engineer at Riedel Communications.

A special focus was on the camera control for the ORF's Ikegami cameras. Riedel's Conductor telemetry solution allowed for direct camera remote control. The solution works with cameras from nearly every manufacturer utilizing their original RCPs. This enables the direct control of all exposure and colour parameters.
